The Chinese are in confinement and the vessel is in the custody of the U.S. States Minister who has applied to Washington for instructions.
It does not appear whether the Chinese were incited to mutiny by ill-treatment, or simply by desire for possession of the dollars of which there was a considerable amount on board recently arrived. They had sailed from Macao, the immigrants from which port have repeatedly committed outrages of a similar nature.
There is nothing to be done in the matter by Her Majesty's Government, but considering the class of Emigrants despatched from Macao, as evidenced by this and previous cases, it is a matter of satisfaction that, for the present at least, Emigration from that Settlement...
